    Priority Electric and Lighting lesson

Plan generator estimate routes: a Priority Electric lesson

Keep a busy estimate week workable. Check area, visit needs and route time before you fill the calendar.

Build generator estimate routes from the job address, visit length and travel time. Confirm the homeowner still wants the visit before you lock in the route.

Greg at Priority Electric and Lighting describes widely spread visits during a storm lead surge. A packed calendar alone was not a workable plan.

    What the client described

In his past interview, Greg says visits were spread out. More leads came after an ice storm. A sales hire helped work them. Some people then changed their minds as the first rush passed.

This story gives us a way to plan. It does not show that every storm lead became a job. A busy week is not a steady monthly pace.

Check the visit before the drive

Check the job address and the area you serve. Ask what the homeowner wants to know. Do they still want the visit? What time works?

Give each visit a clear goal. A site check for a quote is one step. A first phone call is a different step. Tell your sales team which one is booked.

Build a route the team can keep

Look at the week on a map. Group nearby visits where the homeowner’s schedule allows. Leave room for travel and for a visit that takes longer than planned.

Do not stretch your area just to keep every lead. Can your crew do the job? Can it get back there to help later? A far-off sale can add work after the quote too.

    Use this route check

Review missed visits and long travel gaps at week’s end. Use the facts to change next week’s route. Keep urgent requests and firm install dates separate. Do not promise a finish date just because you found an estimate slot.

    1. Confirm the address and service area.
    2. Confirm the homeowner still wants a visit.
    3. Write the main question for the estimator.
    4. Set the visit length and travel gap.
    5. Name who confirms the slot.
    6. Record what happens after the visit.

    Count the space between visits

Use your team’s real visit and drive times when setting slots. An open hour on the calendar may not hold the visit plus the trip to it.

If two jobs cannot fit, offer a real choice of times. Do not quietly shorten the visit or assume the next homeowner can wait.
