Ask for the job ZIP code

Check where the generator work will take place. Use the job ZIP code to review fit without relying on a phone number’s area code.

Ask for the ZIP code of the home that needs generator work. Check it against the area you serve. At the edge of that area, check the job address before a firm visit.

The caller’s phone area code or current location may belong to another place. Neither proves where the job is.

    Make the question clear

Label the field Job ZIP code. If you ask on a call, explain that you need the location where the work would be done.

Do not use a phone area code as proof of location. The caller may have kept a number from a past home. Ask before you rule the job out.

    Use an approved area list

Keep a current list of the areas your team can serve. Show who owns exceptions at the edge. The office should not expand the area just to keep a lead.

Check travel for the quote, install and later support. One visit that seems close may lead to several long trips. Use actual drive and job facts.

    • Job ZIP received.
    • Area checked against the current list.
    • Edge case sent to the area owner.
    • Answer given to the buyer.
    • Final job address checked before the visit.

    Handle an edge case fairly

If the ZIP crosses your boundary, ask for the detail needed to make the check. Keep it on the private job record.

Tell the buyer when you will know. Do not book a firm visit while staff still disagree on whether the crew can cover the job.

    Use three area-check answers

Give the office a clear answer to share. A home can be in your area while the job still needs more checks.

    • Inside: the home is in the area you serve. Keep checking the job as normal.
    • Edge case: part of the ZIP lies outside, or a fact is missing. Ask the area owner before a firm visit.
    • Outside: the checked home is beyond your scope. Save the reason and tell the buyer.

    Keep outside-area requests distinct

A real request outside your area is not spam. Save the reason it could not proceed. That can reveal an ad or page that gives the wrong impression.

Review a few such requests before changing ads or copy. Your team should decide where it can work. This check does not call for new ad settings. Do not add a false local office or more town pages.

    Watch and learn

Ask which home needs the work

The first-call example starts with the home and the need. Check the job address against your real service area.
